Lamayuru to Stok Trek

Briefing of the trek:

As this trail passes through several different valleys, you are able to enjoy interestingly diverse surroundings. Along the way you will also pass by several important Monasteries and villages. In this trek Altitude will be lowest 3190m to Highest Konzke La 4930m. This trek is rated as being of medium difficulty.

Tour Program:

Leh-Lamayuru | Wanla | Hinju | Sumdha chenmo | chilling | Shingo | Rumbak | Stok Village

Day 01: Leh to Lamayuru (120 km drive)

In route visit Alchi Monastery, Rezong Monastery and Lamayuru Gonpa. Over night at Camp in Lamayuru village.

Day 02: Lamayuru to Wanla

Walking hours 3 hours, long but fairly easy walk to the stream below the village, after an hour of walk cross prikit la pass (3730 m). Shila a small village and Wanla village will be on your way. Visit 11 century gompa perched high on a ridge above Wanla. Overnight camp at Wanla.

Day 03: Wanla to Hinju

Today’s trek will take you to Hinju village about 4 hours on foot.The trails from wanla follows the scenic Yapola river on its northern bank until you reach Panjila. Panjila the trails split, with the right hand, southern route, leading to Hanupata and Zanskar. Take the left fork heading northeast, the trails leads up a steep slope until you come Ursi village. Prayers flags will welcome you to Hinju. Over night camp.

Day 04: Hinju to Sumdha Chenmo

Walking 5 to 6 hours. Proceed towards Sumda Chenmo via Konski La 4900 mtrs. From where you can have a view of back route from Pirkiti La. The Valley across the Kanski La has a few huts of shepherds from Hinju where they make butter and cheese. Sumdha chenmo Gonpa is witness for its 8 century Juniper wooden carved Buddha statues. Over night at camp

Day 05: Sumdho Chenmo to Chilling

Long Day walking of 7 hours, hard ascent to pass, and decent altitude of Dundunchen pass 4620. Continue along with Sumdho chu streambed as it turnsleft,where after about a Km, the trails crosses a wooden bridge to the east side of the stream.After crossing the stream, the main trail now begins its ascent up to Dundunchen Pass, following another small tributary thats leads to pastures and camping area. The trals follows a stream along the valley of chilling.chiling is a famous for its metal workers.Overnight at Camp.

Day 06: Chiling to Shingo

Todays trek is walking of 6 hours, with no climb to any passes, alttitude will be between 3390 m to 4115 m. Cross the zanskar River, the trails is easy to follow along the river bank.soon,you come to the confluence with the Markha river that flows in from the east. The trails turns here, and follows the north bank of the Markha River until you reach the village Kaya, and another village called Skyu.visit Skyu Monastery and Shingo is a delightful village nestling in the valley floor.over night at camp site.

Day 07: Shingo to Rumbak

4 to 5 hours trek, ascent to pass, Ganda la 4870 m Heading down along the Markha valley. The path winds along the side of the hill towards the west. An hour-long walk leads you into an open valley with the mighty Zanskar River meeting the Markha to the south. If you look closely, you can often see snow leopard signs of scrapes and pug marks along the narrow gorge. Over night at camp.

Day 08: Rumbak to Stok

Walking times will be 6 hours, Altitude will be 4820 m, From Rumbak, the trails goes up through the village and then passes a ruined fort beyond the village as trail gently climbs up the Rumbak valley,reach the bottom of the mountainside.Here ,the trails starts to switch back and forth sharply as it ascend very steeply to Stokla pass, it will takes at least 2 hours to reach the pass, after which you have a steep decent, until you come to a stream that is coming from the east side of stok la,on your left and reach stok village. Transfer by Taxi to Leh.
